![]() Acupressure and Hypnosis - Medical and Psychotherapeutic Applications
Saturday, May 30 and Sunday, May 31, 2009 Workshop Description: This two-day 12-hour workshop will provide 1) an overview of important aspects of the theory and practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) as it pertains to mind-body healing, and 2) the integration of Clinical Hypnosis with TCM energy work. It will be led by Max Muenke, MD, and Reinhild Draeger-Muenke, PsyD, LMFT who have combined their respective expertise in Medical Acupuncture and Clinical Hypnosis to create a unique hands-on learning experience to further mind-body healing. According to TCM, specific physiological and emotional symptoms are related to impeded energy flow along the meridians and their associated organs. This workshop will allow participants to familiarize themselves with the energy flow along specific meridians, and with ways to activate this flow through stimulating important acupressure points along these channels of energy. Particular emphasis will be given to clinical applications including physical symptoms such as headaches, nausea and joint pain, among others; discomfort related to medical interventions such as pre/post surgery, dental work, labor and delivery; and emotional symptoms of anxiety and depression. In order to enhance the effects of acupressure, we will teach the specific use of hypnosis in combination with acupressure. We have found that hypnotically facilitated absorption increases visualization of vital pressure points and the uninhibited flow of energy along the meridians, benefitting the overall goal of mind-body equilibrium and health. For that purpose, we have developed hypnotic scripts taylored to the individual meridians and their specific physical and emotional functions, which workshop participants are welcome to experience first-hand. Participants will be encouraged to practice acupressure on themselves in order to increase their level of comfort with this modality. Furthermore, participants will have the opportunity to administer TCM-guided hypnosis in facilitator-subject pairs. Learning Objectives:
